[Overseas Community Affairs Council News] Recognition for Entrepreneurship Models and Entrepreneurship Mutual Aid Award Recipients

The 44th Republic of China (Taiwan) and 30th Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurship Model and Entrepreneurship Mutual Aid Award, jointly directed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Overseas Community Affairs Council and organized by the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association, held its award ceremony on December 2. A total of 21 award-winning teams from both domestic and international locations were honored, including 10 from the United States, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan.

President Tsai Ing-wen, before the award ceremony, met with the recipients and commended both domestic and overseas entrepreneurs for their dedicated efforts. She praised Taiwanese entrepreneurs for overcoming challenges such as resource constraints and language barriers to achieve outstanding results overseas, enhancing Taiwan's international visibility.

This year, the government has not only resumed the Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) talks but has also applied for membership in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Taiwan's economic growth rate has the potential to surpass 6%, marking an 11-year high. These achievements are the result of collaborative efforts between the industry and the government. The government will continue to expand international economic and trade relationships and welcome Taiwanese entrepreneurs to return to Taiwan to work together.

Premier Su Tseng-chang personally attended the ceremony to present awards to the 21 winning teams. He expressed his appreciation and sincere thanks to them, highlighting that although Taiwan is small in size and population, it holds a significant place in the world, thanks to the contributions of talented individuals and entrepreneurs, both domestically and internationally. Their outstanding achievements have allowed Taiwan to excel, even during the pandemic.

Premier Su emphasized that entrepreneurship is not an easy path and expressed his gratitude for the joint efforts of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Overseas Community Affairs Council, and the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association in organizing the Entrepreneurship Model selection event each year. This event recognizes the contributions of outstanding enterprises and provides support to them. Through the success stories of these entrepreneurs, it inspires the next generation to work collectively and contribute to making Taiwan stronger and more beautiful.

Deputy Chairperson of the Overseas Community Affairs Council Hsu Chia-ching, representing Chairperson Tong Chen-yuan, congratulated all the Entrepreneurship Model award winners. She particularly noted that this year witnessed a significant increase in the number of overseas participants and award recipients, a remarkable achievement considering the continued challenges posed by the global pandemic. Despite the severe pandemic situation abroad, these overseas awardees have achieved remarkable success, which is both touching and astonishing. To address the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the global economic environment, the Overseas Community Affairs Council has extended the "Relief Project Loan Guarantee" under the Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund until the end of June 2022, actively assisting overseas Taiwanese entrepreneurs through these difficult times.

Hsu Chia-ching further pointed out that Taiwan is actively applying for CPTPP membership, aiming to enhance investment and trade with other member countries through this comprehensive regional trade agreement. This will increase Taiwan's competitiveness and global influence. She hopes that, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the entrepreneurs present, they can collectively support national policies and demonstrate Taiwan's commitment to democracy and freedom.

Chen Ching-kang, Chairman of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association, first congratulated all the award-winning entrepreneurs and expressed gratitude to all the units that assisted in organizing this selection event amid the pandemic. The Entrepreneurship Model award, the highest recognition in the field of entrepreneurship, has honored 686 recipients since its first edition. Each Entrepreneurship Model is an elite figure in their respective domains, setting benchmarks in their industries. They have made significant contributions to Taiwan's economy and, upon achieving success, have given back to Taiwanese society. Chairman Chen hopes for a better future where everyone collaborates to support government economic policies.
