(Reporter Wang Dongliang / Los Angeles Report) On Saturday night, the annual Chinese cultural event in Southern California, hosted by the Diamond Bar Chinese Association, took place in the grand Pacific Palms Resort in the eastern part of Los Angeles. The theme of this year's event was the "33rd Annual Dinner and the Handover Ceremony of New and Outgoing Presidents for the Year 2023."![]() Among the attendees at the event were prominent officials, including California Senator Bob Achuleta, as well as officials from the state of California and Los Angeles County. Mayors, city council members, school board commissioners, and water district directors from various cities such as Diamond Bar, Walnut, San Marino, and West Covina also joined the banquet. Additionally, community representatives and leaders from various organizations were present. During the banquet, California Senator Bob Achuleta personally recognized the contributions and achievements of Lee Minnie, the current president of the Diamond Bar Chinese Association, to the community. He expressed gratitude for her years of dedication. Senator Achuleta then announced that George Shau-Lon would succeed as the new president of the Diamond Bar Chinese Association, effective immediately. Senator Bob congratulated him on this appointment. At the evening banquet, several elected officials, including the Mayor of Diamond Bar, the Mayor of Walnut, the Mayor of West Covina, and City Council members, extended their blessings and recognition to the two presidents during the transition. They also acknowledged the Diamond Bar Chinese Community Association's years of dedication, including active participation in various community activities. Through involvement and interaction in community events, the association has been promoting traditional Chinese culture overseas, connecting with overseas Chinese communities, strengthening ties and friendships with the local community and various ethnic groups. These efforts have earned recognition and appreciation from mainstream society. In addition to the handover ceremony for the new and outgoing presidents, the dinner featured exciting performances for the attending guests, including singing and dancing, modern dance, solo acts, martial arts, and more. The splendid performances elicited cheers from the audience, and the guests at the dinner generously contributed to support Chinese language education. The newly appointed president of the Diamond Bar Chinese Association, George Shaolun, introduced the core members of the new association during the dinner and reiterated the commitment of the Diamond Bar Chinese Association to continue serving the community. He stated that the association integrates the needs of the older generation, the middle generation, and the younger generation and will continue to work towards its mission of serving the community. He also expressed anticipation for the support and participation of community members. |
