On the 11th, the annual scholarship award ceremony and donation event for Southern California Chinese entrepreneurs were held by the Chinese Parent Association of Walnut High School. Hundreds of students and parents gathered at the scene. The Chinese Bar Association and its president, along with entrepreneur Mr. Gu Shaolun, generously donated $10,000 to be used for the school district and parent association.
Mr. Gu Shaolun, Chairman of ADESSO, said that when he started his business in the United States in 1995, he had no relatives, friends, or classmates, just $1,000 to start with. At the age of 50, with work experience exceeding that of a 75-year-old, he experienced facial nerve disorders during a trip back to Taiwan, initially mistaking it for a stroke. At that moment, he realized that although he had worked hard to make money throughout his life, he had forgotten to give back to society. Therefore, after recovering, he vowed to contribute to the community. He donated an annual income of over $100,000 from a commercial property worth $5 million to schools in the Walnut and Diamond Bar areas where he resides. He particularly focuses on education, safety, and environmental protection. Organizations and institutions in need of assistance can also contact him.
Xu Hong, President of the Chinese Parent Association, stated that the association selects several outstanding students annually to provide scholarships. This year, they especially thank Mr. Gu for his donation, enabling the parent association to continue its annual scholarship activities. The winning students this year include Chen An, Hanoi Qingxiang, Sun Tianze, Deng Zhongran, Wang Yifan, and Yang Haocheng, all recent graduates. The event also recognized dedicated parents and student volunteers, with the youngest volunteer being a first-grade student, thanking them for their support of the parent association's activities.
It is worth mentioning that the parent association's "Fold a Wish" handmade group made graduation ribbons of different colors for different schools, with all proceeds from the ribbons being donated to Walnut High School and used for the parent association's funds.
Su Wang Xiulan, the founding president of the Chinese Parent Association of the Walnut School District and former mayor of Walnut, stated that the most important activity of the parent association is to help raise funds for the school every year. Dr. Bob Taylor, director of the Walnut School District, expressed his gratitude to President Gu for his financial and physical contributions, stating that the Chinese community needs people like him.
