Chinese-American entrepreneur and philanthropist Gu Shaolun, who has long adhered to the philosophy of giving back to society, recently led community leaders in welcoming Michele Lew, the first Asian female principal of Walnut High School.
To celebrate the new principal, Gu Shaolun donated $10,000 to the Walnut School District and $10,000 to Walnut High School. Gu Shaolun is also the president of the Walnut Valley Chinese Association. Every year, he allocates hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Walnut Valley Chinese Association, local high schools, the Walnut School District, the Walnut High School PTA, and various non-profit organizations and community safety groups in neighboring cities.
Gu Shaolun stated, "Supporting education and community safety is the most beneficial way to give back to society. Everyone has a responsibility." He encourages more businesses to contribute to the community, aiming to make our society better.
Walnut City Council member Dr. Wu Liliun emphasized the need for more entrepreneurs to support the community, like Mr. Gu, who is willing to contribute both financially and through other means to make our city safer, especially amid current community unrest.
Former Walnut Mayor Su Wang Xiulan, a founder of the Chinese Parents Association in the Walnut School District, represented the association in expressing gratitude to Mr. Gu for his years of support and assistance. He has not only made financial donations but also provided internship opportunities for high school students and actively participated in community activities, particularly in the area of public safety.
Walnut Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Bob Taylor also expressed special thanks for Gu Shaolun’s generous donation. He noted, “The Walnut School District is an excellent district in California, with many students advancing to Ivy League and top US institutions. Therefore, the district must offer the best and most advanced education in areas like technology, arts, music, and sports. This requires strong support from parents, and Mr. Gu's donations help our district and many students. On behalf of the Walnut Valley School District, I thank him for valuing and supporting education. We are honored to have such a dedicated parent in our district.”
