![]() On September 22, Diamond Bar High School held a Mid-Autumn Festival fair to raise funds to support the school’s development and construction. The event was organized by the Diamond Bar Chinese American Association, in collaboration with the Diamond Bar Chinese School and the Chinese School Parents Association, aimed at raising funds for various educational projects, infrastructure improvements, and enhancing student resources. Supporting the event were Diamond Bar Mayor Stan Liu, Vice Mayor Dr. Chia-Yu Teng, Walnut Valley Unified School District (WVUSD) Superintendent Robert P. Taylor, WVUSD School Board Member Dr. Tony Torng, Chair of the Walnut Valley Water District Theresa Lee, Diamond Bar High School Principal David Hong, Athletic Director Kurt Davies, and Gu Shaolun (Allen Ku), President of the Diamond Bar Chinese Association. The fair featured a variety of activities, including children's games, food stalls, business booths, and a special fundraising booth. Additionally, there were exciting performances and generous prizes, with highlights including music from the Diamond Bar High School concert band, traditional Eastern instrument performances, and a string quartet, drawing much attention. Nearly a thousand people attended, creating a vibrant atmosphere. During the event, the Adesso Foundation, founded by Gu Shaolun, donated $20,000 to Diamond Bar High School for the construction of the gymnasium. Gu noted that the Diamond Bar Chinese Association has long been dedicated to preserving Chinese culture and actively supports community development. This annual Mid-Autumn Festival fair is not only a cultural celebration but also an opportunity for the community to contribute to the school. The event showcased the community’s cohesion and multicultural integration, allowing residents to experience the cultural atmosphere of the festival while supporting the school’s future development, truly embodying the spirit of "entertainment and philanthropy." Dr. Tony Torng stated that the funds will go to the Brahma Foundation of Diamond Bar High School, a nonprofit organization specifically set up to raise money for the school. The $20,000 donation will be used to install an LED screen in the gymnasium, providing clearer visuals for various sporting events. He expressed deep gratitude to Chinese entrepreneur Gu Shaolun for his significant support and donation, which helps address the funding shortages in the school district. Dr. Torng explained that the Walnut Valley Unified School District, which includes schools in Walnut and Diamond Bar, is one of the top-performing districts in the East, with rising enrollment each year and the option for out-of-district students to enroll through a lottery system. Teacher salaries in the Walnut Valley District have also been increasing annually, attracting many Chinese families and students. It is understood that the Adesso Foundation, based in Walnut, donates over $100,000 each year to support local school districts, police departments, hospitals, social organizations, Chinese associations, Chinese parent-teacher associations, and Chinese schools, while also establishing scholarships and grants for outstanding students. Gu emphasized that supporting education is one of the most beneficial ways to give back to society and encouraged more like-minded entrepreneurs to contribute to the community, take on social responsibilities, and enhance social cohesion. |
