On January 21, the Diamond Bar City Government grandly announced that January 29, 2025, will be celebrated as the Lunar New Year,** warmly inviting all citizens to join in celebrating this significant traditional holiday. The Lunar New Year is not only a festival symbolizing family reunions and bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new but also a cultural event filled with joy and hope. At the event, Mr. Shao-Lun Guo, President of the Diamond Bar Chinese American Association (DBCAA), formally accepted this announcement on behalf of all those celebrating the Lunar New Year.
Dr. Henry Tang, Mayor of Diamond Bar, first introduced the Lunar New Year, stating**: “It is our city’s proclamation regarding the Lunar New Year, a festival celebrated by millions of Asians and Pacific Islanders, including Chinese, Koreans, Singaporeans, and Vietnamese. In Eastern culture, the Lunar New Year is a time of joy and renewal. On this special day, families reunite to welcome health and prosperity for the new year while deeply reflecting on the many contributions of the Asian community to society. In 2025, the Lunar New Year falls on January 29. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, it comprises a 12-year cycle, with each year named after one of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. This year is the Year of the Snake.” Mayor Dr. Tang emphasized, “On this day, we commemorate the Lunar New Year, joining families in Diamond Bar, California, and all over the world as they welcome its arrival. The City Council and Diamond Bar City invite everyone to celebrate this rich cultural tradition and recognize the significant contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders to our community. The City Council wishes good luck, health, longevity, and happiness to all those celebrating the Lunar New Year and officially declares January 29, 2025, as the Lunar New Year. Now, we would like to invite Mr. Shao-Lun Guo, President of the Diamond Bar Chinese American Association, to come on stage and accept this announcement on behalf of all those celebrating the Lunar New Year.” Mr. Guo expressed,** “On this day, I am deeply honored to represent the DBCAA at the Diamond Bar City’s proclamation of 2025 as the Lunar New Year. This is not only a result of the efforts of the Chinese community but also the concerted efforts of the entire Asian community. I am proud to represent the DBCAA in participating in this significant honor event. Additionally, on February 8, we will join the Asian community, including Vietnamese, Korean, and other Asian groups, as well as local American friends, to hold a unique Lunar New Year celebration event. The event will take place at Diamond Bar High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.” According to Mr. Guo, the DBCAA has meticulously prepared a series of colorful programs,** including singing and dancing performances, traditional dragon and lion dances, and food stalls featuring snacks from various countries, allowing you to experience the flavors and enthusiasm of different cultures. The DBCAA sincerely invites all interested friends to join us in celebrating this festive and unifying holiday. Ms. Yi Tong, Walnut Diamond Bar School District Board Member, commented,** “I have previously served as the President of the association. I believe this announcement (declaring January 29, 2025, as the Lunar New Year) is very important for our students. We are a unique association that truly understands and respects all races, which is very important. Therefore, I am very grateful to the city government for making this announcement, and we will continue to support the Asian community. Meanwhile, I would like to invite everyone to participate in our celebration.” City Council members Mr. Lin Xu Liu and Ms. Ruth Low stated that the Lunar New Year is not just a holiday for Chinese or Asians. In a diverse community like Diamond Bar, every resident shares each other’s cultures. The city government is very grateful to the event organizers (DBCAA) for holding such events every year." |
