Walnut High School's Chinese Parents Association Holds Grand Leadership Award Ceremony; Gu Shaolun Donates $10,000

On September 21, the Walnut High School Chinese Parent Association held a grand Leadership Award Ceremony in Walnut City. The atmosphere at the event was lively, with over a hundred students, parents, and community guests gathering to witness this honorable occasion. Chinese entrepreneur Shaolun Gu generously donated \$10,000 during the ceremony to support the association’s public welfare and educational initiatives.

During the event, Shaolun Gu donated \$10,000 to the Walnut School District Chinese Parent Association. He stated: *"I have always believed that what is taken from the community should be given back to the community. Based on this belief, I have consistently donated over the years, contributing to Walnut City, Diamond Bar, and other groups in need of support to help the community thrive."

Former Walnut City Mayor and founder of the Walnut School District Chinese Parent Association, Su Wang Xiulan, expressed deep gratitude for Gu’s generous donation. She noted that the association regularly provides free extracurricular activities for elementary, middle, and high school students, which require funding. Thanks to entrepreneurs like Gu, the association can continue offering more free services to students and parents. Su Wang Xiulan emphasized: "We especially want to thank Chinese entrepreneur Shaolun Gu. Over the years, he has donated \$100,000 annually to support various groups including the city government, police department, library, Chinese associations, high school parent associations, and many disadvantaged groups. He truly embodies the spirit of giving back to society. Because of his generous support, we can continue organizing enriching activities for students."

Su Wang Xiulan also thanked the participating parents, whose selfless dedication has enabled the association to grow and offer numerous extracurricular activities that help students gain admission to better universities. She pointed out that over 100 students received awards that day, presented by members of Congress, state senators, city government, and the parent association, recognizing their excellence in academics and community service.

Billy Tang Zhenning, President of the Walnut School District Chinese Parent Association, said in an interview: "The event was a volunteer award ceremony to recognize and honor those who served the community diligently over the past year. We prepared four types of certificates—from Congress, state legislators, Walnut City, and the parent association—awarded based on students’ service hours. These awards not only acknowledge their contributions but also encourage continued community involvement and a spirit of giving. We will continue to support students with more activities to help them grow through experience."

They shared insights on their organizations, successful college admissions strategies, and future career planning, offering valuable inspiration to students and parents.

**Coach Wei Sun** from Eagle Blade Fencing Club expressed his honor in attending the event. He noted the association’s long-standing support for students and parents and its commitment to public welfare. He was pleased to share his experience in fencing and physical fitness.

"Our club is a professional fencing club with 17 years of experience, ranked top 2 in the world, and has participated in the Olympics. We have many outstanding fencers aged 8 to 14, including nationally top-ranked athletes. I’m grateful for the trust from parents and hope to train them for the world stage and the Olympics—that’s my biggest dream as a coach."

Coach Sun emphasized that fencing is not only an elegant sport but also significantly enhances children’s focus and physical fitness. Many shy or physically weak children become confident and outgoing through long-term training. This is the charm of sports—and of fencing.

The Walnut High School Chinese Parent Association aims to provide information and support to parents, especially new immigrants, helping them integrate into the community more quickly. CAVA serves as a bridge between schools and parents, helping families adapt to new environments, improve quality of life, and build a better future.

Founded in 1992 by former Walnut Mayor Su Wang Xiulan, the association encourages and helps students and parents participate in school and community activities. It offers educational programs, parent seminars, extracurricular activities, and fundraising support for schools. The association is committed to fostering strong communication between parents, students, and schools.
