Allen Ku, a man of action, is not the founder of ADESSO. He was born in Yangmei, Taoyuan, and after completing his education in electronic engineering at Mingxin Technical College in Taiwan, he began his career at Wang An Computer as an information processor. Later, he joined Qtronix, where he provided technical support services to clients. In 1993, he was assigned to Germany as a product manager, and two years later, he moved to the U.S. subsidiary, taking on the role of general manager. Over nearly a decade, he accumulated solid industry experience, professional skills, and a vast network across Europe, North America, and Asia.

In 2002, Allen Ku came across an opportunity to acquire ADESSO, a well-established brand in the United States, founded in California in 1994, specializing in keyboards and mice. ADESSO's primary client at the time was Ingram Micro, the largest computer information and consumer electronics distributor in the United States and globally. At the age of 32, he made the bold decision to invest all his accumulated savings into acquiring ADESSO. When he acquired ADESSO, the company had only five employees. Due to tight finances during the early stages of entrepreneurship, he chose to focus on computer peripherals that were "lean, profitable, resistant to market downturns, and uncomplicated." He strategically avoided the saturated market and instead focused on industrial products. During the rise of Chinese manufacturing, Allen Ku traveled to China alone, developing new products of superior quality yet lower cost. Within a few short years, the product line expanded to include headsets, speakers, graphic tablets, scanners, and webcams, doubling the $2 million in annual revenue exponentially. Today, ADESSO offers a portfolio of up to 300 different products, with clients including Ingram Micro, Synnex, and Tech Data, the top three global distributors. In 2020, it achieved annual revenue of NT$1.6 billion, making it a successful and rare brand among Taiwanese entrepreneurs.

Building a Global Brand with a Customer-Centric Five-Star Service Spirit

Facing intense competition in the international market, ADESSO embodies a "customer-centric, customer-respected" attitude. It distilled a "same-day shipping, free technical support, manufacturer warranty, price protection, and satisfaction guarantee" five-star service strategy from its experience in serving customers. Just the act of shipping within 24 hours requires a well-established warehousing and logistics system. "To truly build a brand, one must implement this five-star service spirit. Building a brand is not like a basketball game where you score a basket when a product is sold; it's like a baseball game. From the first base distributor, the second base distributor, the third base end user, all the way back to home plate, every base must be served for a chance to score," emphasized Allen Ku.

ADESSO Corporate Culture

Connecting "Vision" with the "Future World"

Currently, ADESSO has established research and development centers and production supply chains in both China and Taiwan. Its operational presence extends beyond the United States to Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. In terms of new business expansion, the core focus is on "vision," involving the development of remote video conferencing equipment, investment in security surveillance products, home IoT devices, and cloud software services, all moving towards a "diverse integration" approach in distribution. Product-wise, it emphasizes "virtual and physical integration," while the market strategy involves a synergy between Taiwan and overseas markets.

Facing intense global market competition and ever-changing environments, overcoming various challenges, and maintaining high growth and profitability require entrepreneurs to withstand immense pressure. Regarding his entrepreneurial journey over the past two decades, Allen Ku candidly expressed, "I don't know pressure; I only know that we must work hard!" This statement reflects his highly practical and determined approach.

Establishing a Foundation to Implement Education, Health, and Environmental Conservation Principles

In the first half of his life, Allen Ku was deeply immersed in his career and work. However, two years ago, while on a business trip in China, he experienced what seemed like a facial nerve disorder, a condition resembling a stroke. During his hospitalization, he had a profound realization: if you were to approach the end of your life tomorrow, what unfulfilled wishes would you have left?

"Life shouldn't be just about making money!" After recovering, upon his return to the United States, Allen Ku promptly founded the "Adesso Nonprofit Foundation" in 2020. The foundation actively upholds the principles of safeguarding health, education, and environmental conservation. Besides providing scholarships, during the global pandemic of 2020, he led ADESSO to engage in epidemic prevention efforts. They donated tens of thousands of masks to nearby schools, police, and medical units, fulfilling their corporate social responsibility.

Expanding a Global Brand with Taiwan at the Center

Recently, he made a special trip back to Taiwan to participate in the "44th Republic of China and 30th Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurship Model and Entrepreneurship Support Award Ceremony" organized by the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association. There, he received recognition from President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Su Tseng-chang. He also had the opportunity to exchange experiences in innovation and entrepreneurship with other awardees and gain insights into global economic trends and foreign investment environments.

With the advent of decentralized cloud management, Allen Ku's dream of returning to his hometown has found an opportunity for realization. He revealed that he is currently recruiting talent in Taiwan to develop and manufacture remote video conferencing equipment, artificial intelligence security surveillance products, home IoT devices, and cloud service software. He is also working towards an IPO in Taiwan. During this visit to Taiwan, in addition to selflessly sharing his five-star service brand strategy, he carries a spirit of giving back, hoping to openly share with Taiwanese entrepreneurs interested in expanding their international market presence in Europe and America. This sharing includes insights into distribution, networks, funding, and operational management strategies, injecting new vitality into the country's development and accelerating global market expansion with a global perspective and mindset.
